Dave Kemp: West Brom not dwelling on FA Cup exit

West Brom are not dwelling on their disappointing FA Cup exit – because the coaching staff were happy with the performance.

The Baggies lost 2-1 to Derby County at The Hawthorns last weekend, as they crashed out of a cup competition to lower league opposition for the third time in a row.

But assistant Dave Kemp says he and bossTony Pulis are not worried about the club's cup form.

"We're disappointed with the result, but we actually played very well," said Kemp.

"It's the highest number of shots and crosses we've had in a game since we've been here. If you played that game again we might win it 4-0.

"But on the day they battled away. It's the FA Cup so you don't get a second chance. It's a bit cruel in that respect."

"We're not worried," he added. "It's cup football. Lots of people get knocked out by lower league teams. That's why everybody loves the cup isn't it?

"We wanted to advance and we played well enough to, but it didn't happen on the day."

Because they were happy with how the team played, Albion's coaching staff haven't gone back through the game with a fine tooth-comb, although they have looked at Derby's two goals again.

"We haven't dwelt on it," confirmed Kemp. "But obviously any time you concede goals you're going to be unhappy and you're going to discuss that."

Thanks to injuries to Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt, both Jonas Olsson and Brendan Galloway got rare starts in defence, but neither did enough to keep their place in the starting line-up.

"It was an opportunity for them but it's a bit of a negative when the team loses," admitted Kemp.
