Sarmiento has featured in all five Championship matches so far, but is yet to start since joining on a season-long loan from Brighton.

The 21-year-old missed the end of last season with a broken foot and has still been working his way back to full fitness with the Baggies, with Corberan admitting his primary aim for the first month was to ensure the Ecuador international suffered no setbacks.

Corberan believes Sarmiento took an important step forward by completing a 90-minute training match at The Hawthorns during the international break.

He explained: “In the week before the Huddersfield game I saw an improvement in his performance level in training.

“The game during the break we played three 30 minutes and he was suffering in the middle 30, but we achieved the target to complete this. We have made one important step – psychological and physical.
