Jimmy Shan is determined to have a happy ending to his Albion fairytale by guiding them to an immediate return to the Premier League.

Shan's rise through the Baggies ranks has seen him become caretaker boss until the end of this season.

They are aiming to beat Hull today to go a step closer to sealing a play-off place, before trying to get back to the top flight via Wembley.

Completing that would be a dream for Shan, and he said on his journey: "It is fairytale stuff in terms of the rise and where I have come from.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I started here as an under-11 coach and worked with every age group from under-sevens all the way through.

“It is very much a fairytale story. But I am competent and confident.

“Everything I have done in that process in the build has been to one day become the lead man.

“In a short space of time, it has been accelerated beyond my wildest of dreams.

“But I am enjoying the responsibility and process.

“I will continue to work as diligently as I possibly can and to maximise my expertise and the expertise of the staff to make sure we gain promotion back to the Premier League.”

Shan has done well to get Albion firing again following Darren Moore's sacking, and is glad to have now achieved clarity over his position.

"That’s the key word. With clarity and direction we can move forward and plan accordingly," he said.

"What this gives us is a steer, clarity and direction to make sure we can plan the remainder of the season in the way we best see fit."

Shan will be receiving help from former Baggies player Steven Reid over the coming weeks after he was taken on in a coaching role.

Reid played for the club between 2010 and 2014, and on his appointment, Shan added: "Steven as a player here was a student of the game

"He’s a fantastic human being first and foremost. He’s a man of great integrity.

"The players that played with him and are still at the football club, they hold him in huge regard. I’m more than positive Steven is going to be a fantastic addition to the coaching staff."
