The Argentine famously guided the Baggies to promotion from Division Two back in 1993.

And last night, the former Tottenham star wowed fans with stories from his glittering career at a sold-out meet and greet held at The Mount Hotel Country Manor in Wolverhampton.

The event was organised by the Punjabi Spurs Official Supporters Club, who have members across the Midlands and Staffordshire.

A handful of Baggies fans also attended on a night which included a fundraiser for Breast Cancer charity Legacy 4 Lucy.

“It is absolutely wonderful to be back in the Black Country,” Ardiles said.

“It’s not exactly my territory, being in Wolverhampton.

“But it’s fantastic to meet fans and talk about my time at Tottenham, Albion and winning the World Cup with Argentina.

“Albion are always one of the first results I look for every week.

“When I was there we went up in the play-offs. They are in the play-offs now.

“I know they are disappointed to be in the Championship.

“But I see them as a club that is moving forward.

“Hopefully, with a little bit of luck, they will win promotion this year.”
