Ossie Ardiles celebrates promotion in 1993.

The World Cup winner will be at The Mount Hotel in Wolverhampton next Friday, March 8, to answer questions from football supporters about his long and illustrious career.

The night will be raising funds for two charities that aim to help women recover from breast cancer, Legacy 4 Lucy and Breast Cancer Now.

Ardiles said: “I am lucky to have such a loyal fan base across the country and the Black Country is no exception.

“I’m looking forward to meeting supporters and answering their questions. It will be a great night and one all football fans will enjoy.”

Ardiles was a successful player, winning the World Cup in 1978 with his country as well as the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup with Tottenham.

But it is his career in the dug-out for which he is most fondly remembered for in the West Midlands.

Ardiles was named Albion manager in May 1992 and went on to guide the Baggies to promotion out of Division Two in his first season via the play-offs.

His attacking brand of football, which saw Albion finish the season as the highest scorers in the third tier, was loved by many fans, and the campaigned ended in an euphoric 3-0 win over Port Vale at Wembley.

However, the love affair was short-lived, and Ardiles quit that summer to return to Spurs as manager.

Next Friday the former manager will be answer questions about his time at Albion, as well as his playing career.

There will be a chance to look at and buy memorabilia from him and fans are able to meet the star and have a photo.

There will also be live music from Wolverhampton musician Andy Webster.

Tickets start from £25 and can be bought at eventbrite.co.uk or on 07984712961.
