The 20-year-old loanee has enjoyed a sparkling start to the season, scoring two goals in the first two games and setting up two more in Saturday’s 7-1 mauling of QPR.

That victory made it three wins in a row for the Baggies to turn around a stuttering start to the campaign, and now Darren Moore’s side head north for a reunion with Tony Pulis in fine form.

“Three wins in a row can only be good for the team,” said Barnes. “We’ve got two tough games coming up so on the back of those performances we’ve got confidence going into them.”

After visiting Middlesbrough, Albion’s next game in the league is at home to Stoke City, one of the pre-season favourites for promotion.

But Albion’s main focus at the moment is Friday night’s big clash with Pulis, who spent nearly three years as Baggies head coach.

Barnes knows Pulis’s unbeaten Boro side will provide a much sterner test than rock-bottom QPR, but he says the Baggies won’t be fazed.

“At the end of the day it’s just another 11 players out there,” he said. “Of course they’re going to set up differently, it’s going to be different to QPR but if we go out there with the same mindset and positivity I’m sure we can get a result and the points that we want.

“To do well in this league you’ve got to score goals as well as keeping them out the other end.

“You have to pose a threat. Eleven goals in two games, can’t complain with that.”
