Tony Pulis admits he's worried about the injury sustained by James McClean.

The winger took a knock to his knee and was substituted in the 47th minute at the Memorial Stadium.

Chris Brunt also went off with a knock in the 44th, while Matt Phillips was due to start but then left out because of a tight hamstring.

McClean is due to have a scan in Birmingham to determine the extent of his injury.

"I don't think Brunty's is that serious but James McClean, we are worried about James," said Pulis.

"It's round his knee and with the size of the squad at the moment, we don't want to pick up any injuries.

"Matt had a tight hamstring before the game, and we think that's something to do with his back.

"Matt is quite tight in his back at times so that was a precaution more than anything else."

Pulis acknowledges the knocks leave Albion 'very thin on the ground' as Gareth McAuley and James Morrison are also out injured.

When asked about how much recruitment he needs to do, he said: "Lots. We need to. I think you’ve seen we need to.

"We’re very thin on the ground. We do need to change and I think everyone at the football club knows that.

"It’s just making sure you get the right players. We’ve made offers that haven’t come to any fruition yet, but we’ll keep trying."

Albion lacked a cutting edge at Rovers. Ellis Harrison and Tom Nichols struck for the hosts before Craig Dawson's stoppage time header proved too little too late.

Pulis added: "The game is a pre-season game. There were some good things and some not so good things.

"We are not playing for points, we are playing to get them fit for when the season starts.

"That's the most important thing. The disappointing thing for me is the two injuries."
