'Unbelievable week' for Walsall's Harry Williams in comeback bid
It has been a significant week for a popular Walsall player who has endured a year-and-a-half of injury hell.
Boss Lee Grant hailed an “unbelievable week” for Walsall’s Harry Williams as the defender made big strides in his return to fitness.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined with a ruptured Achilles for almost 18 months, dating back to the League Two play-off final defeat against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley.
It has been a slow and painstaking journey back for the former Alvechurch centre-back, but this week Williams made progress with some outdoor pitch work at Walsall’s Essington base as he stepped up a comeback.
“So Harry has had an unbelievable week,” head coach Grant told the Express & Star.
“I’m not even sure he himself thought his week would have been as good as it’s been so far.
“I’m not putting pressure on Harry by saying this, he’s still in the early stages of his progression from gym to grass.
“But he’s been on the edge of possession practices, he’s been in the middle of a practice today.
“That’s amazing - he’s got his boots on, he’s outside with us and he’s part of our practices. We’re working him into the sessions, which is unbelievable for Harry. It’s been a great week.”
