Build starts on new Lidl in West Midlands town - as firm reveals opening plans

The new Lidl will create up to 40 jobs.

Work has now started to build a new Lidl supermarket in Kidderminster, with the firm revealing it is on track to open the store next summer.

Lidl is building the new store on Franche Road, after the former Co-op store was demolished.

It is set to create up to 40 jobs and once opened, shoppers will no longer have to travel all the way to Stourport-on-Severn to shop at Lidl.

The firm said it had worked closely with Wyre Forest District Council to ensure the new store delivers value for everyone.

The new supermarket will feature the discounter’s fan-favourite in-store bakery and the iconic ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle.

Outside, 130 car parking spaces will serve the store including eight disabled spaces, nine parent and child spaces and two rapid electric vehicle charging spaces.

Additionally, six covered Sheffield Cycle Stands are proposed allowing for 12 cycle parking spaces.

Just as foundations are being laid for the building, Lidl is inviting nearby primary schools to be the first in the area to join the ‘Lidl Foodies’ programme.

The initiative provides teachers with free resources to help children across the country develop a love for healthy eating.

Robin Canning, Lidl GB’s regional head of property said: “Thank you to everyone for their continued support and patience while we have worked to deliver this state-of-the-art store for the community.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be entering this next stage of development on Franche Road.

“We have worked collaboratively with the local community and councils to ensure this store not only brings fantastic value and choice to Kidderminster but also delivers good jobs for people here."
