West Midlands Premier preview: Tividale happy to grind it out

Boss Dave King insists West Midlands Premier table-toppers Tividale would be delighted with a series of 1-0 victories during the run-in.

The Beeches outfit are 11 points clear with 10 games left and their next test is a trip to Shawbury United tomorrow.

They go into the game on the back of a surprising 4-0 loss to Haughmond, but King has not demanded an emphatic response – a narrow win at the division’s 15th-placed side would suffice.

“It’s a tough fixture as Shawbury have picked up recently,” he said.

“I know a few of their players as well.

“We’ve got to go there and get a result, but it won’t be easy.

“We’ll take 1-0s every game now.

“I don’t think any of these last 10 games are going to be comfortable.

“Teams are stepping their game up against us, so we’ve just got to stick together and go again at Shawbury.”

Tivi are going into the game without Dan Smith, who is suspended.

They will also be missing Curtis Cocking, who is unavailable due to work commitments.

“I’ve said it before, but if someone would’ve offered us this position at the start of the season, we would’ve gladly taken it,” added King.

“It’s like a marathon. We’ve done the 20 miles, and now we just need to make sure we see it through and get over the line.”

King also revealed Tivi have been trying to bolster their squad with a few new signings. One seems set to come off, but the other two have fallen through because of wage demands.

Second-placed Wolverhampton Casuals were in seventh heaven last weekend as they thrashed Black Country Rangers and they are hosting Bewdley Town tomorrow looking to keep their title hopes alive.

Third-placed Haughmond, of Shropshire, are also still in with a shout at the title. Cradley Town are aiming to upset them though.

Wednesfield, in sixth, are travelling to second-bottom Pershore Town.

At the other end of the table, Dudley Sports could do with a win.

The 18th-placed team, who are six without victory, will do well to get anything at Malvern Town, who are fourth, though.

Also in the division, Smethwick Rangers are going up against Wellington, and Bilston Town are heading over to Hereford Lads Club.
