The Werder Bremen winger – who it is believed would cost around £22million – was left out of his side’s friendly with Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday with a move believed to be on the cards.

Villa were linked with a move for Rashica in January and again while football was suspended during to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Kosovo international scored eight goals and registered five assists in the Bundesliga last term.

In total he has scored 18 times in 63 outings for the German side.

Monaco and RB Leipzig have also been linked with a move for Rashica who predominantly plays wide left, but can also operate in the number 10 role.

But reports in Kosovo suggest it is Villa who are leading the race for his signature.

Villa spent around £140million last summer.

But they are again preparing to splash the cash this summer in bid to make sure they aren’t dragged into another relegation scrap.

They recently replaced sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch with Johan Lange after co-own Nassef Sawiris spoke openly about his lofty ambitions.

An out and out centre-forward is understood to be their priority with Ollie Watkins believed to be Dean Smith’s first choice – a player he worked with at Brentford.

Liverpool’s Divock Origi is also an option if he is given the green light to leave Anfield.
