Future up in the air for several Aston Villa players

Villa are still to make decisions on the future of out-of-contract players as they wait for the outcome of the Premier League season to become clearer.

The club last month triggered a clause to extend striker Keinan Davis’s deal by a further year, with the 22-year-old expected to play a key role should the top-flight campaign resume.

But several other players are still to hear whether or not they will be offered fresh terms, including defender James Chester and winger Andre Green, who are on loan at Stoke and Charlton respectively.

Villa, who sit 19th in the Premier League, find themselves in a particularly difficult position as they do not know which division they will be playing next season.

The situation over contracts may become a little clearer on Monday, when top-flight clubs will be asked to agree on plans which would require the future of out-of-contact players to be decided no later than June 23.

Villa are eager to complete the season and fight their way out of relegation danger on the pitch. It is thought the FA would attempt to block any attempt by the Premier League to scrap relegation if the campaign cannot be finished.
