The 56-year-old was one of the figures at a meeting held in London yesterday where the Premier League voted to suspend the current campaign until April 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That April date, however, remains under review. And it is highly likely it will be extended if the outbreak of the virus shows no signs of slowing down.

Purslow was asked questions by members of the media as he left the meeting held in Paddington. When asked if he believes the season will resume, the chief executive said: “None of us know, we’ll see.”

He added: “We have no idea, let’s hope so.”

Questioned whether he believes the Premier League and Football League have made the right decision calling off games, he said: “I think we have got great league management and they have made the right decision.”

The club have donated food prepared for today’s Premier League clash with Chelsea to good causes.

Villa said 850 staff packed lunches and hot food would be given away to homeless charities and housing shelters.

Meanwhile, the Express & Star understands Wolves are in the very early stages of deciding how they will treat the hiatus.

The club are drawing up training plans as well as how long players will be given off during the break.
