Aston Villa wait for news regarding Alan Hutton injury

Villa are waiting to learn the full extent of Alan Hutton’s knee injury after the defender was forced off early in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Stoke.

The 34-year-old was due to see a consultant yesterday, having left the Bet365 Stadium on crutches.

Boss Dean Smith admitted the early prognosis was not positive but added: “We’ll have to get the consultant to look at it because he felt something in there. We can’t say how bad it is yet.”

Out of contract in the summer, there are concerns Hutton may have played his last game for the club should the injury turn out to be a severe one.

The Scot is Villa’s longest-serving current player having been signed from Tottenham by Alex McLeish back in 2011.

He joins an already lengthy injury list which still includes Jack Grealish, Henri Lansbury, Axel Tuanzebe and James Chester.

Hutton went down in just the third minute complaining of pain in his knee, with Stoke opening the scoring through Sam Vokes while he was off the field getting treatment.

Albert Adomah scored for the first time in almost a year to earned Smith’s men a deserved point, after they bossed the game in the second half.

“It’s the first time really we’re coming away from a game since I’ve been back thinking we really should have won the game,” said defender Tommy Elphick.

“In this game they had no reason to sit back so it was more about us being proactive and forcing them back and we were really unlucky not to win.

“It was really unfortunate to lose Alan so early on, such a key player and someone who has been so good for us this season.

“We were down to 10 men and got caught out that side.

“It’s something to learn from, maybe to switch on a bit quicker and maybe a few of us could have done a little bit better to prevent the goal.

“You go 1-0 down and the dynamics change again but the second half was a really good performance.”
