West Midlands Metro passengers are facing disruption

Trams were unable to run into and out of Birmingham city centre.

Disruption was expected to last into Wednesday evening to allow for repairs.

A dedicated bus service had been laid on for passengers serving the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul's and St Chads.

Trams were initially unable to run from Black Lake to Birmingham's Grand Central after the cable damage at the Jewellery Quarter.

Other bus services such as the number 79 were accepting metro tickets.

West Midlands Metro tweeted about the disruption at around 7am on Tuesday.

The disruption was later reduced to services between Soho Benson Road and Grand Central.

Trams operated between Wolverhampton St George’s and Soho Benson Road every 10 minutes.

A statement said: "Please be advised that damage caused to the overhead line in the early hours of this morning has affected the network between Soho Benson Road and Grand Central.

"This means that we are unable to operate a service between these stops until repair works have taken place, it is likely that alternative travel arrangements will be in place until the evening of Wednesday."
