A military flypast will honour the life of Sir Jack Hayward tomorrow when thousands gather for his funeral.

The 671 Squadron Army Air Corps, the regiment for whom Sir Jack Hayward served, is to conduct a flypast with a Lynx helicopter over Molineux at 1.30pm.

It will signal the start of the funeral cortege for the final journey from Molineux to St Peter's Collegiate Church.

Fans and residents of Wolverhampton are being invited into Molineux (gates open 12.30pm) as well as being encouraged to line the streets of the route of the cortege as it makes its way from Molineux through to the City Centre.

Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey said: "We are very grateful to the 671 Squadron who have agreed to send a military Lynx helicopter and carry out a fly over of Molineux as a mark of respect to Sir Jack.

"Sir Jack served in this very Squadron during the War and I would like to thank Major Jonathan Stewart-Davies for his support in arranging that for him.

"The fly over will be a fitting start to proceedings and will signify the departure of the cortege from Molineux at 1.30pm as it makes its way onto Jack Hayward Way, then up Waterloo Road on its way to St Peter's Church.

"There will be road closures along the route, including one on the ring junction with Waterloo Road, and so we hope the public will bear with is as the cortege makes its way at walking pace to the church.

"I am sure fans and people of Wolverhampton will line the streets to say their final goodbyes to Sir Jack, who was one of their own.

"I would also like to thank Group Captain Adam Sansom of RAF Cosford for his his assistance in arranging RAF Pall bearers at the Church – Sir Jack would be humbled and delighted by the military's involvement in his funeral service."
