Shoppers forced to evacuated after alarms sound at Sainsbury's in Wolverhampton

Shoppers were forced to evacuate a supermarket in Wolverhampton after fire alarms began sounding.

Firefighters rushed to the Sainsbury's St Marks branch on the ring road in the city centre just after 6.20pm.

People in the store were told to leave the store as two crews from Wolverhampton Fire Station carried out checks.

Firefighters carried out an investigation of the store but found no fire, a spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said.

Wolverhampton Fire tweeted: "White watch are at Sainsbury's in Wolverhampton – the building has been evaucated as alarms are actuating.

"Please avoid the area."

The store re-opened at 7pm with after full checks by the service and engineers were finished with their checks.
