Compton Care is hoping people will come up with activities as part of the national 2.6 Challenge after a number of its events were cancelled.

The UK-wide event, which starts this Sunday, involves people doing activities based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 to fundraise amid a drop in donations to charity.

Dawn Smith, Compton Care events fundraiser said: "We are extremely excited to be a part of such a huge campaign and hope that many of our supporters, including those who were due to take on the London Marathon, will sign up.

"We are facing such difficult times and are hoping the 2.6 challenge will give us the boost we need to keep Compton’s services going.

"The 2.6 challenge is open for anyone to take part in, whether it be shooting 26 hoops, flipping 26 pancakes, or running 2.6 miles.

"We want to encourage people to think of an activity based around the number 26 or 2.6.

"The challenge will last for one week and is open to anyone of any age.

"There are no rules, all we ask is that people follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing, remember to stay local and stay safe."

The date – April 26 – marks the original date of the 40th London Marathon which raised £66.4 million for charities last year.

The event has since been postponed to October 4 because of coronavirus.

The call comes after Compton Care called on people to donate in order to keep its vital services running throughout the pandemic.

It has already brought in a number of measures to help ease the strain on the NHS, including opening up a new ward specifically for Covid-19 patients.
