Councillor Beverley Momenabadi, who represents Ettingshall, has been shortlisted for Young Councillor of the Year in the Local Government Information Unit and Churches, Charities and Local Authorities Councillor Achievement Awards for 2019.

Miss Momenabadi, 28, who is originally from Manchester, said she was extremely pleased to be nominated for a second time.

“I am up against some worthy competitors from around the country, so I wish everyone luck for the awards night,” she said.

“It is such a pleasant surprise to be nominated for the award again this year. I have only been a councillor since May last year, so I’m really moved that I have been recognised in such a short space of time.

“I feel really privileged to be the youngest councillor in Wolverhampton and to be able to represent the people and area where I live and work.

“Some of my fondest projects this year have included fundraising to send a student from Wolverhampton on a mission to Palestine, and working with the Sikh Toy Appeal to set up a ‘back to school’ appeal for local children and families.

“I also hosted Wolverhampton’s first event to remember murdered MP Jo Cox and delivered Stop and Search workshops to over 1,000 children in the city.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during this time."

Now in its 10th year, the awards will take place on Tuesday, November 5, at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in Westminster, London, and are designed to celebrate the work that local councillors do for their communities.
