A decision has been made to close the restaurant following a reduction in customers and it has been confirmed no staff will be made redundant due to the closure.

Councillor Keith Chambers, portfolio holder for business support said: “As a regular customer of the Town Hall restaurant, I am saddened by this closure.

"However, it is vital that the council is using its funds wisely and with so much competition we could not continue with the Town Hall restaurant.

"I am happy to say there have been no compulsory redundancies as part of this process and the majority of staff are now undertaking valuable work in the Civic Centre.

“Within the council, we do our best to support our staff during difficult times driven by the difficult decisions we are facing.”

Confirming the decision, a Walsall Council spokesperson said: “We decided to permanently close the Town Hall Restaurant earlier this year.

"This decision was made following ongoing reduction in customers making the restaurant unsustainable financially.

“We understand the closure brings disappointment to many of our customers.

"We would like to thank them for their loyal custom over the years.”
