Chiefs at South Staffordshire Council backed the scheme last year, which includes a revamp of their offices in Codsall.

The project, which could finish early next year, is set to bring a GP surgery, NHS community outreach team and police to the Wolverhampton Road headquarters.

Council leader Brian Edwards MBE said at the time: “The impact of Covid-19 has tested, and proven, the council’s ability to work remotely and underlined the need to update the building’s outdated infrastructure.

“It will enhance the space so it’s conducive for a future way of working, with agile working continuing to be a driving factor behind the design of the office space in the community hub.

"This investment will secure the building’s long-term future and the council has been working with partners and local businesses to make sure the new community hub meets the needs of the local community.

“I’m sure it will be a huge asset to the district and I’m looking forward to seeing it open in early 2022.”

Work will include the relocation of the village library, which is already on-site, into a new building and more than 70 extra parking spaces.

Other changes will see a refurbishment of the existing facilities and a redesign of the council chamber.
