Armed police descend on Rugeley street

Armed police descended on a road in Rugeley following reports someone was being threatened with a gun and knife.

Officers and police dog units were sent to Main Road on Saturday night following a call from a member of the public but found no-one at risk when they arrived.

The team was stood down after it was confirmed nobody was under threat.

Inspector Stephen Wilde, from Staffordshire Police, said: "We got a call from a member of the public stating they were being threatened by somebody armed with a knife and gun.

"When we got there we didn't find anybody. No members of the public were at risk and there were no arrests."

Chief Inspector Kevin Mulligan tweeted: "Firearms incident just dealt with in #Rugeley where @StaffsDogs #S3ARV resolved the incident in a low-key manner... no danger to wider public, all involved safe and reassured."
