Trudy flies past her 100th birthday

A great grandmother who served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Gertrude Fellows celebrates her 100th birthday at the Firs Care Home

Gertrude Fellows, known to most people as Trudy, was born on December 6, 1920, in Gillingham, Kent, to mother Ada and father Richard.

After leaving school she worked for a short time before joining the RAF/WAAF. She spent about four years in the WAAF and was stationed at a number of different bases.

She met her late husband Raymond whilst in the WAAF and after leaving the WAAF they got married and she moved to Sedgley.

Mrs Fellows and her husband set up and ran a family business in Sedgley in which they both worked full time until they retired in 1983.

Her son, Graham, said: “She has valued her close family environment which she has always remained very much part of. She has two children, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren who have been a very important part of her life.

“Her interests include cooking and baking, ballroom/Latin dancing, socialising with friends, hand and machine knitting, dress making and tapestry.

“She has visited many places and enjoyed lots of holidays – many in her touring caravan.

Mrs Fellows,now lives at The Firs Care Home in Dudley.
