Chief Supt Phil Dolby was taken to hospital on March 29 after showing coronavirus symptoms for seven days.

Last week his colleagues posted on social media to say Chief Supt Dolby was in intensive care on a ventilator and asked for "positive thoughts and prayers".

He is thought to have tested positive for coronavirus after being admitted.

And this morning Firearms Operations Unit tweeted saying: "Update on Phil Dolby. During the night he started to breathe by himself.

"Depending on how this goes the amazing staff of the NHS may look to extubate later and reduce sedation.

"Still moving in the right direction after 11 days on a ventilator."
