Health trust that runs Stafford hospital is £4m in black

The health trust that runs County Hospital in Stafford recorded a surplus of almost £4 million – with finances more than £20m better than anticipated.
The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust had been expected to make a deficit of £16.9m in the financial year ending March 2015.
But additional income and control of finances at the County Hospital means the trust has been able to report a surplus.
It has also been able to meet the £30m savings target as part of the cost improvement programme according to a report.
Director of finances, Chris Adcock, said: "The trust's financial performance to the end of March was a surplus of £3.8m which is £20.7m better than the planned deficit of £16.9m."
He added that increased financial controls and managing financial risk had helped generate the surplus.
