Wolverhampton's first Free School extends warm welcome to all

Free Schools are independent schools wholly funded by the government so that they offer a free education to their pupils.

Anand Primary is a Sikh ethos school founded on core Sikh principles and will be open to children of all faiths and those with none.

As a Free School, Anand Primary School will take full advantage of its freedom to innovate by asking its pupils to be at school for an extra hour every day.

Called 'Be Time', this extra hour at the end of the day will allow pupils to engage in activities aimed at supporting and complementing their learning, to take part in sports and physical activities, to pursue their interests in the arts and to learn community languages.

The school will also provide wraparound care options to parents.

The school will seek to instil in every pupil the core values of taking personal responsibility, caring for others and constantly reaching for more.

The safe, happy and eco-friendly place will be dedicated to giving children the very best start in life.

The highest standards of teaching will be complemented by a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enable all the children to fulfil their academic, creative and sporting potential.

A broad and balanced curriculum will be offered which is subject to regular Ofsted inspections in the same way as conventional schools.

Serving the local community is at the heart of the school's vision and so it will develop as a community hub.

It will stay open in the evenings to provide classes in languages, citizenship, ICT, fitness and any other areas of learning for which there is a demand.
