Firefighters had to cut free two men - a driver and passenger - after a car crashed into railings on the ring road near KFC and McDonald's on Sunday.

Photographs published on social media showed a crumpled black car facing horizontally across St John's Road after the crash happened at around 8pm.

Police initially named a suspect they said had been charged, however this information was incorrect and in fact no further action is being taken against the driver.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to St John’s Road in Stourbridge town centre just after 8pm on Sunday 20 October, where a car had struck railings.

"A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and released with no further action."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered two patients, both men, who were trapped in the car.

"They were both cut free with assistance from the fire service before being treated for potentially serious injuries.

"The driver was then transported to Sandwell Hospital whilst the passenger was taken to Russell’s Hall Hospital."
