Bilston murder probe: Man arrested after woman's body found at home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at her home in Bilston.

Police arrived at the home in James Street yesterday evening just before 6pm.

Officers found the 68-year-old woman but nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem is taking place today.

A 40-year-old man, who is known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

West Midlands Police described it as a 'domestic incident'.

A police cordon is in place in James Street and another scene is being held by police in Dilloways Lane, in Willenhall.

A neighbour, who gave her name as Kelly, a mother-of-three, told the Express & Star: "I heard banging from the house on Thursday night and in the early hours of Friday.

"We heard a real bad knock but we didn't take any notice. Then it went around 9pm.

"I was asleep and in the early hours of the morning just after two, I heard a car revving.

"The police knocked on my door on Friday night to see if I had a back gate key, we share the back gate with the property.

"I am really shocked to be honest. We have never had anything like this on the street. It was last night when all the police and ambulances came.

"She was a nice lady."

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, said: “This is a truly tragic incident in which a woman has been found dead inside her own home.

"Our thoughts are with the lady’s family and friends at this awful time.

“A man known to her has been arrested and enquiries are underway."

One neighbour called the killing 'shocking' and paid tribute to the 68-year-old woman as a 'nice lady'.

Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Payne, who oversees CID at West Midlands Police, took to Twitter regarding the ongoing investigation.

He tweeted: "Just spoken to the DI leading this murder enquiry. All in hand."
