Drug dealer jailed after being caught with gun and machete

A drug dealer who was caught with a revolver and machete in his car has been locked up for more than 11 years.

Officers swooped on Mohammed Akhtar, who was parked up in Woodfield Crescent, Balsall Heath, on November 1.

A search of the Renault Clio found a gun in a bad and two rounds of live ammunition in the footwell, as well as a machete.

The 29-year-old was searched and wraps of heroin and crack cocaine were found in his jacket pocket.

He pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, firearm and ammunition, and the possession of heroin and crack cocaine with the intent to supply.

Akhtar, of Ombersley Road, Balsall Heath, was sentenced to 11 years and two months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on December 17.

DC Adam Garbett, from the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), said: "These were two potentially dangerous weapons and drugs which have been taken off our streets.

"This significant sentence shows that weapons and drugs are not accepted within our society and further highlights our on-going commitment to keeping our communities safe."
