Amazon warehouse fire: Two arrested over arson attack at distribution centre

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire was tackled at Amazon's huge warehouse in Rugeley.

More than 1,000 workers were evacuated from the distribution centre in the early hours yesterday in the aftermath.

Dozens of firefighters from six crews tackled the blaze, which Staffordshire Police today confirmed was started deliberately.

A 19-year-old man, from Birmingham, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was bailed, pending further inquiries, until next February.

Police arrested a second man, a 21-year-old from Wednesbury, today on the same charge.

He remains in custody.

Police say the investigation is ongoing into the fire at the Power Station Road site just after 2.10am.

Amazon management are being updated on developments, Staffordshire Police said.
