Services between Worcester, Kidderminster, Dorridge, Whitlocks End, Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham Snow Hill were delayed after the landslip, which happened near the Railway Train pub on Offmore Road.

A car was seen hanging over the edge of the landslip and the track below was covered in several fence panels and a section of the floor surface, as well as a mount of dirt and stones from the bank.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue worked with Network Rail crews to secure the car to stop it dropping onto the tracks.

Rail replacement buses have been requested to run between Stourbridge Junction and Worcester Shrub Hill.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Railway said: "Members of Geotech and Network rail have been working to sort out the issue as the wall that runs down the back of the pub isn't looking in the best state.

"We have stopped services going through that section and road transport and a rail replacement service is set to run into the night.

"We think there's a good chance that they might be able to resolve it and have trains running by the morning, but we will keep replacement services on standby."

The landslip has been said to be caused by heavy rain in the region and Network Rail engineers have been assessing what to do next.

A spokeswoman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue said: "We were alerted to reports by a neighbour of a car which was in a precarious position because some of the railway embankment had collapsed.

"A crew from Kidderminster and a crew from Droitwich, with eight firefighters in total, were dispatched to the scene at 3.52pm to assess the scene and make the vehicle safe.

"They reported that the bank had collapsed onto the railway line and have stayed at the scene to assist Network Rail as they wait for a Geotech technician to attend."
