Very strong winds to hit West Midlands this week

Very strong winds are expected across the Black Country and Staffordshire this week, as a yellow warning for wind was issued.

The Met Office issued the warning, and has said areas inland will see gusts between 50 and 60mph between 10pm tonight and 9am tomorrow.

Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are also likely, and for high-sided vehicles crossing bridges, along with short term loss of power.

The warning is also in place for tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, with heavy rain also expected on Friday.

The warning for today and tomorrow covers the West Midlands, East Midlands, London and South East England, North West England, South West England, Wales and Yorkshire and Humber.

While the warning for Friday and Saturday is for England, along with parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The yellow warning is the least severe of the three, behind amber and red warnings.

It comes after several weather warning were issued for ice and snow last week, although snow failed to materialise in the Black Country.
