There was plenty of new year joy for proud parents who welcomed additions into the family.

The babies were born in the early hours of New Year's Day in the Black Country.

Karanjit Kaur, aged 35, from Newhampton, was the first to give birth to her baby boy who she's yet to name. He weighed in at 2.91kg (6.4lb) and was born at 12.10am at New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton.

Mrs Kaur said: "I'm very happy of course but I'm also very tired as well. We have not decided on a name yet because I'm from India and in my culture you have to go to the temple first then you decide on a name. I will go straight to the temple once I'm out of hospital. It really was the best way to bring in the new year.

However, I was always expecting my boy to be a 2016 baby as my original due date was January 15 but he came earlier."

Born just under an hour later at 1.02am was Sisa Ngwenya's baby boy, weighing 3.45kg (7.6lb). Miss Ngwenya, 31, who originates from Zimbabwe but now lives in Dunstall with her partner, said: "We haven't named yet, we're thinking Mason but we haven't fully decided."

Also celebrating was Walsall mother Vera Assamoah who welcomed 2.7kg (6lb) Bezaleel into the world, three days earlier than expected at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Vera, 33, from Reedswood, said: "I am feeling absolutely delighted, I am so happy to have my baby boy.

"He has a three-year-old sister and a four-year-old brother to play with and I can't wait for him to meet them."
