Scottish striker Fletcher was snapped smiling next to the car and a sprawling mansion.

The Lamborghini Aventador is driven by Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises. And also in the picture there is also what appears to be a Bentley Supersport, which can fetch around £160,000.

It appeared on social media around the time that Fletcher's current club Sunderland were humiliated in a 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Thousands of people took the opportunity to poke fun at the striker, who is said to earn £28,000 a week but has barely found the net since August 2013.

However his agent Scott Fisher insisted Fletcher had not posted the photo on Twitter.

He blamed the company who sold the Lamborghini for putting the picture online.

Fisher is reported as saying: "It wasn't Steven that put the picture up.

"The company who were doing advertising on it done it.

"I don't know what the problem is and what people are getting excited about."

Fletcher earned the wrath of Wolves fans when leaving the club for Sunderland in 2012.

He handed in a transfer request, tweeting at the time: "Just handed in a transfer request just to let the fans know where I am at right now." He added the hashtag 'head's gone'.

Fletcher was soon sold for £12m. His first season at Sunderland was a success, with 11 goals in 28 games, but just seven goals have followed in the past two seasons, which have also seen the player plagued by injuries.
