Boxers are lords of the engagement rings

Two boxers served up a knockout marriage proposal when they got down on bended knee in the ring and popped the question.

Adrian Firkins, 44, and 24-year-old Ricky Welsby took each other on in the lightweight match at Merry Hill's Copthorne hotel before proposing to their girlfriends in front of hundreds of fans.

After three rounds, and after their fight was declared a draw, the announcer called Debbie Tyler, Adrian's girlfriend, and Ricky's other half Nikki Vyse into the ring for some 'photographs'.

But it soon became apparent that something else was happening, when the boxers got down on one knee side-by-side and presented the engagement rings, which had been donated to them by Laurick Jewellery.

Luckily, both ladies said yes.

Adrian, from Long Lane in Halesowen, said: "I was more nervous about the proposal than the fight. I was worried she might say no, but we have two beautiful children together so I didn't think she would."

Ricky, from Codsall Road in Cradley Heath, said: "The proposal was all I could think about all day, not the fight."
