A popular Italian restaurant in Wolverhampton is hoping to return a city pub to its former glory after a £35,000 refurbishment.

Don Salvo, based in Darlington Street, Wolverhampton, has taken over the Mitre Inn, on Lower Green, Tettenhall, after the pub declined in recent years.

Owner Salvatore Ferrante says it will be a traditional pub for families along with a higher class cocktail bar and a special a la carte restaurant with a menu that will change each month.

Mr Ferrante, who once owned restaurants across the Midlands but sold them off before concentrating his business in Wolverhampton, said today he was excited with the new project.

The venue has been freshed up inside has given a revamped kitchen.

Mr Ferrante, aged 52, said: "I am absolutely excited about the new restaurant and pub.

"I am looking forward to all the customers coming to see us. We are hoping to attract a more well-behaved, family business and people with children – a higher class of customer."

Don Salvo, in Darlington Street, Wolverhampton, opened in 1999 but was put up for sale in November last year after the owners said the city centre was no longer "up to standard".

The 130-seat restaurant was put on the market for £150,000.
