Across the area dozens of events are planned to mark the weekend with some of the biggest displays in the West Midlands.

Weston Park, near Wolverhampton, is planning one of the largest bonfire and fireworks shows at the historic estate.

Set in the 1,000 acres of parkland at the hall visitors will enjoy a huge fire and two separate firework displays as well as a funfair and plenty of food and drink.

At Shugborough Hall, in Staffordshire thousands are expected to marvel at fire and pyrotechnic show organised by the Stafford Round Table.

In Wolverhampton the city council has organised two big events at Hickman Park, Bilston and West Park on Friday and Saturday.

Many families will be holding their own bonfire and firework parties and bosses at West Midlands Fire Service have issued crucial warnings to help people enjoy the weekend safely. Each year the highest number of firework injuries happen at family or private parties with over half of those injuries to children.

Vij Randeniya, West Midlands Fire Service's chief fire officer said: "We want people to enjoy the firework season but urge them to remember how important it is to stay safe, to make the occasion a memorable one for the right reasons."

Crucial tips include never putting fireworks in pockets, only buy fireworks marked BS 7114, keep explosives in a locked box and stand well back.

Never return to a lit firework even if it hasn't gone off.

The service has also warned people not to use petrol on a bonfire.
