An inquest jury has this afternoon recorded a verdict of misadventure into the death of Midland tourist Emily Jordan.

The 21-year-old from Trimpley, near Bewdley, was killed while riverboarding on a holiday in New Zealand with her boyfriend in April 2008.

Black Country coroner Robin Balmain criticised Mad Dog Riverboarding, which ran the activity, saying: "The overall impression one gains on listening to the evidence is that the guides panicked, they did not know what to do and they did not have the equipment with which to do it."

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Miss Jordan's death is now being carried out by the New Zealand authorities.
