Danielle Lloyd's pal found guilty despite 'alibi'

An acquaintance of Wolves WAG Danielle Lloyd was today facing years behind bars for armed robbery after a jury refused to believe an alibi she gave him.

The reality TV star and former Miss Great Britain told a court Craig Mason was at a charity fundraiser with her when a security guard was battered with a pickaxe handle and robbed of £80,000.

But the jury convicted Mason of two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.

The 32-year-old powerboat racer was part of a gang that netted £160,000 in two raids on Nationwide Building Society offices.

Miss Lloyd, aged 27 — who is expecting on-loan Wolves star Jamie O'Hara's second child — said in court Mason was at a breast cancer charity bash she organised in London's West End.

She told Snaresbrook Crown Court she had first met him in Marbella in 2007 and he was at a Field of Women breast cancer fundraiser at the Embassy nightclub in the early hours of October 11, 2007.

She told the court: "I saw him a couple of times throughout the night.

"I was very busy trying to organise everything and speak to everybody there."

She said they later went to a friend's house for a party.

But the jury yesterday found that Mason was part of a gang said to have machetes and an axe when they attacked two guards and made off with £80,000 from the Brightlingsea building society.

He had denied conspiracy to rob.

The jury found Mason guilty by a majority of 10 to two. He was also convicted of another robbery, in Holt, Norfolk, three months later.

The gang was led by Danny Speed, who has been likened by one Flying Squad officer to the character played by George Clooney in the film Ocean's 11.

Speed, aged 29, has been jailed for 20 years. Mason, of Harrow Drive, Hornchurch, Essex, will be sentenced next week.
