Stars release a Grand plea for well-loved theatre

Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre has started a fundraiser to keep it afloat during coronavirus.

The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton has launched a fundraising appeal to help with costs during Covid-19

The theatre posted a heart warming video online featuring a number of its supporters and past performers saying what the theatre means to them and their memories of performing on its stage.

The video features iconic faces including Jeffrey Holland, Judy Buxton, Joe McEldrey, Royston Blythe, Nick Owen and Richard Cadell and Sooty.

Scott Bird, PR manager for the Grand, said: "Community is right at the heart of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and to ensure our Grand remains at the heart of the community, we need to act now.

"The Grand Theatre is an escape from life’s troubles where stories come to life in the most magical way, live, right before your eyes. It’s a uniqueness that we need now more than ever."

Due to Covid-19, the Grand's upcoming programme of shows have been cancelled or postponed, causing some financial uncertainty for the Wolverhampton landmark.

The theatre has launched an online JustGiving page to help cover costs during lockdown and they are asking supporters of the theatre to donate whatever they can afford to help.

Organisers are hoping to raise £1,000 through the digital fundraiser, to donate visit the JustGiving page.
