Comedy fun is all wrapped up at Birmingham's Glee Club this week as a host of stars are stopping off.

Canadian comedy star Tommy Campbell will tell stories from his best-selling book The Slacker Confessions during a headline gig at Birmingham's Glee Club.

The performer has headlined comedy clubs throughout the UK, North America, Asia, India, the Middle East, Europe and South Africa as well as entertaining the British Armed Forces and RAF.

He's also appeared in numerous TV shows as an actor, including Doctor Who, Spooks, Green Zone and The Dark Knight. Campbell will headline the Glee Club, in Birmingham, tonight and tomorrow (February 17-18|). He will be joined on the bill by Des Bishop, Steven Shanyaski and Dominic Frisby.

A spokesman for the Glee Club said: "As a native New Yorker, Des Bishop moved from Queens to Ireland in his mid-teens in 1990.

"He has since carved out a highly successful career in stand-up comedy in Ireland as well as having had three acclaimed television series on RTE, Ireland – The Des Bishop Work Experience in 2004, Joy in the Hood in 2006 and most recently, the award-winning six episode comedy documentary series In the Name of the Fada in 2008."

Steve Shanyanski, meanwhile, started his stand-up career almost ten years ago. The spokesman added: "In 2003, Steve stood up, unchained himself from his desk and walked out of a mind-numbing logistics job (after handing in his contracted one-month notice) in order to persue a career in comedy – and has never looked back.

"Within months of his comedic birth he made it through to the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedian of the Year, the North West Comedian of the Year Final, and later that year he had the honour of appearing on the BBC7 Radio Showcase Spanking New."

Completing the line-up will be Dominic Frisby. The spokesman said: "As a stand-up, Dominic has performed at every major UK comedy club and all over the world.

"He is one of the most in demand comperes on the circuit and is resident host at Downstairs At The King's Head, London's oldest comedy venue.

"Dominic is one of the top voiceover artists in the UK.

"Quick, no nonsense and extremely versatile, he has voiced thousands of ad campaigns, documentaries, sports programmes, as well as the occasional cartoon series, most recently Roary The Racing Car with Peter Kay."

The Glee Club will welcome other big name acts in coming days, with Simon Clayton appearing on February 23, 24 and 25.

Clayton has been a stand-up comic since the summer of 1995 and on stage he talks about what he is: male, fat, mixed race, married, balding and anything else that currently makes him laugh. . . although not necessarily in that order.

He's won rave reviews, with the London Evening Standard calling him a "likeable, fast-thinking Londoner" and Time Out describing him as a "very skilful stand up".
