Carillion wins £400m deal on Battersea Power Station site
Wolverhampton-based construction company Carillion has won a £400 million deal to redevelop London's landmark Battersea Power Station site.
The company, currently overseeing the transformation of 24 secondary schools across Wolverhampton, is expecting to start work this summer.
The Battersea project will be made up of 866 apartments, shops, theatre space and business studios on 18 storeys.
Chief executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company, Rob Tincknell, said today: "This will be one of the largest construction contracts to be awarded in recent history and we are delighted it will go to an award-winning British firm."
The contract is for the first phase, due to complete in 2016.
Carillion chief executive, Richard Howson, said: "We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for this prestigious project, which I believe reflects Carillion's reputation for delivering high-quality, value for money projects."
Carillion employs around 600 people at its headquarters in Wolverhampton.
