Steve Bull: There was always the risk Joao Gomes would leave Wolves
Read the latest column from Wolves legend Steve Bull.
Joao Gomes has done absolutely brilliant. He has been superb for the club and what he does in the future is another matter.
He was a brilliant player, and him and Andre together in the centre of the park were absolutely superb.
There was always the risk with relegation that Gomes could leave and I think there are going to be a few more out of the door before the season starts.
It’s a whole new chapter now. We’ve had so many good players come through our door and left to go on to better things.
Thoughts on £38million price tag
If he had got a couple more years under his belt and a bit more experience then I think he would’ve gone for double that [£38million].
He’s a young lad though and they’re investing in his youth and his talent. But £38million these days is hardly anything for a player of his capability.
But it isn’t about the price tag, it’s about what he has given to Wolves and what he will give to Aston Villa after he has joined them.
Wolves need to invest at the back
I just think they’ve got to get a backbone. I said it before that they needed a centre-half, a midfielder and a front man.
They’ve got the frontman in the form of Raul Jimenez now and I think they just need to strengthen in the defence more than anything.
If we can keep it solid at the back all of next year, then we will have the firepower to create chances, score goals and get as high as we can in that league.
Jimenez-Armstrong partnership could be “deadly”

It’s excellent to see Jimenez back and if he plays a front-two then Armstrong and Jimenez will be deadly in the Championship.
We have to get behind the manager. We don’t know who he is, but we didn’t know who Nuno Espirito Santo was when he came, and he stamped his mark on the club.
I think Carlos Peixoto can do the same. It’s going to be tough because the Championship is a very hard league to go out of.
He has never managed in that league before either. So he’s going to find it hard, but if he’s got the players and the ammunition to do it then he’ll give it a good go.
I’d dare say we can get out of the Championship first time, but it’s going to be tough.
