"Dirt cheap" - Wolves fans react as Joao Gomes leaves for Aston Villa

Wolves fans’ reaction after Joao Gomes departs to join Aston Villa.

Wolves fans have been giving their reaction, after it was revealed that Joao Gomes is leaving Wolves to join West Midlands neighbours Aston Villa in a £38million deal.

Villa have targeted Gomes after losing Amadou Onana to a long-term injury, before fellow midfielder Youri Tielemans left for Manchester United for £38million earlier this week.

Gomes joined Wolves from Flamengo in 2023 and made 130 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and setting up six more.

Here is how Wolves supporters have been reacting to Gomes’ departure.

@JamesTM11 - West Ham got double that for Fernandes. Who’s sanctioning this price. Insanity!

@ejlawann - Absolutely pathetic. Asset stripping once again, and please, no one tell me that all the money is going to be used to rebuild. The financial decisions this club has been making in the past three or so years beggars belief. Dropping down a league has devalued the club massively.

@seepyj - This is crazy cheap. How can we be taken seriously when we habitually allow proven PL stars to leave for drastically less than the comparative market value?

@leeb1977 - Seems dirt cheap in the current market. Would’ve expected £50m+. That said, good move for him as a player. Hopefully we get a slightly different profile to work off Andrew now.

@bradwilko1 - Hero to zero. What a shame.

@RussellMackujn - Typical Wolves bargain sellers. Good luck to him, but I want to see some quality coming in and quickly.

@tuckers1969 - On the cheap. Not the first Wolves player to go on the cheap and probably not the last.

@evago53 - Another good player leaves for less than his worth. Why do we keep doing this? Best of luck Joao, you will be missed.
