Steve Bull: I would relish playing in this Wolves team

I would be licking my lips if I could play in this current Wolves team with the amount of chances that we create.

I don’t want to disrespect the Wolves teams I played for from 1986 to 1999 because we had great spirit and great sides.

But I look at the chances we are creating now – where they are coming in thick and fast – and I would have an absolute field day.

It is a different type of football now though in England. There are so many differences from my day.

These days the players are like robots. They are drilled into doing tactics and it is more about actually playing football; one, two, three or 20 passes to get the ball into the box. Modern football is so fast and technical but it is unbelievable to watch.

In my day, our players were taught to be more direct. It was all about ‘route one’ and getting the ball into the mixer for Bully to score.

But you can’t compare teams of the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s with those of today. They are different eras. It is great to see 10 of our players have received international call-ups but at the top of my list would be Willy Boly, Adama Traore and Diogo Jota – none of whom have been called up (yet anyway).

I understand some fans don’t want our players to get called up in case they get injured on international duty. But it’s swings and roundabouts. You can get injured if you fall off a kerb outside or while cutting the grass.

They need to play as ruthlessly for their country as they do their club. If your heart isn’t in it that is when you get injured. Fingers crossed, they come back in one piece.

I don’t think the international break has come at a good time for us though. It was like a snowball effect. We started off OK and gradually we got better before earning our first win last week. If we would have lost then I would have been glad for the break. We were just about getting accustomed to the Premier League. But we will see how the players react when they come back to face Burnley at Molineux.

Sean Dyche, their manager, knows how to put a team out. But if we can get the same atmosphere at Molineux as what we’ve had so far, it will be absolutely brilliant.

I hope a few Burnley players will be shell-shocked at our roaring atmosphere.
