Nuno after Wolves win: We deserved it

Nuno Espirito Santo felt his team were deserved winners after they edged QPR 2-1 at Molineux.

Wolves were 2-0 up and cruising at half time thanks to goals from Alfred N'Diaye and Helder Costa.

But an uncharacteristically sloppy defensive display in the second half saw QPR get back into it with Conor Washington netting and Wolves indebted to John Ruddy, Ryan Bennett and then a last-minute goalline clearance from Conor Coady.

Nuno said: "It was a tough win but a good win, a good result. I think we deserved it – we created a lot of chances and it was good work from the boys.

"We battled. Sometimes you have to attack, sometimes you have to defend and we defended well.

"They're a tough team to defend against, long balls, big guys, so I'm happy for the win.

"I think we did a good first half with good moments of football, a lot of chances and beautiful goals. It was very good. The second half was different.

"The support of our fans was fantastic through the game, thanks to them for that.

"They were direct, second balls, the goal came early. We should take time to settle down and be more compact.

"We keep on going.

"It was Coady this time, before it was another one and it will be another one (again). It's a team effort."

Derby's 1-1 draw with Norwich meant that Wolves increased their lead at the top of the Championship to 13 points.

Nuno, though, didn't want to talk about Wolves' rivals.

"That's not important for us. For us today was important, the result was achieved against us in the first round.

"QPR is a well organised team with good players and has a way of football that requires a lot of defensive organisation to try and stop them."
