Former West Brom frontman confirms his retirement

The former striker netted 22 goals in an impressive Championship campaign.

Former Albion striker Jay Rodriguez has confirmed his retirement.

The ex-Baggies man, 37, has been without a club since his exit from Wrexham during the summer.

It brings an end to a 19-year professional career for Burnley-born Rodriguez, who had two spells at his hometown club, one as an academy graduate and one near the end of an impressive spell in the game.

Rodriguez, a one-cap England international, spent two seasons at The Hawthorns between 2017 and 2019.

He arrived from Southampton in a £12million move but was unable to help keep the Baggies in the Premier League. He formed a lethal strike partnership with loanee Dwight Gayle in the Championship the following campaign, but Albion were seen off in the play-off semi-final by Villa.

Rodriguez returned to the top flight and Burnley in a £10m move, consisting of £5m up front, that summer after 33 goals in 90 games for the Baggies. Twenty-two of them came in the impressive 2018/19 campaign, where Albion ultimately fell short.

The striker spent another six years at Turf Moor until 2025 before 18 months at resurgent Wrexham, who he helped win promotion from League One.
