West Brom assessing defender's injury blow after another USA call

George Campbell has earned another USA call - but a fitness blow may scupper his chance to feature.

Albion are assessing the severity of George Campbell’s groin injury as the defender earned another call to the United States international squad.

Hawthorns skipper Campbell had already been drafted into Mauricio Pochettino’s latest USA ranks prior to Wednesday’s squad announcement.

But the central defender hobbled out of Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Southampton with the muscle issue.

His place in the national team squad for this month’s Concacaf Nations League double-header against Haiti is in doubt as Albion confirm a clear picture of Campbell’s injury status and the best steps for his rehab.

The Albion captain has already been ruled out of Saturday’s home clash against Millwall in the Championship, the final club fixture before the break.

The fitness blow comes as a setback for Campbell, who won his second and third USA caps in the extended break during September and October, where he was part of Pochettino’s young and new-look group.

He was rewarded for fine club form with another US call, but the groin issue is likely to rule the former Montreal man out of any international action.

Elsewhere, Albion’s in-form Northern Ireland star Isaac Price has earned another call for his nation for Nations League clashes against Ukraine and Hungary this month.

Price could line up against Baggies team-mate Callum Styles in Budapest after the left-back earned a call for Hungary.

Hungary face Georgia and Price’s Northern Ireland.

Republic of Ireland have yet to confirm their squad for ties against Austria and Kosovo, with Jayson Molumby pushing to once again be involved.

Molumby’s Hawthorns midfield partner Ousmane Diakite will jet away to once again represent Mali after outstanding form for his club in the Championship.

Mali face Rwanda home and away in African Cup of Nations qualifying, with Albion’s midfield powerhouse bidding to add to his three international caps.
