Danny Imray set for £5million move to West Brom's Championship rivals - report

A hugely popular former Baggies loanee appears set for a permanent switch elsewhere in the Championship.

Star former Albion loanee Danny Imray is closing in on a £5million move to Wrexham from Crystal Palace, according to reports.

Imray has been a target of Albion’s since an excellent loan at The Hawthorns in the second half of last season and the Eagles graduate, who turns 23 on Monday, is now set for a permanent move away from Selhurst Park.

But The Telegraph claim the right-back is set to make a £5m transfer to ambitious Wrexham, in a blow to the Baggies.

Imray excelled at The Hawthorns as he recovered from a shaky start to become a key man in the push for second tier survival under James Morrison.

Morrison make no secret of his desire to bring Imray back to the club and Albion have monitored the right-back’s situation, but a move elsewhere has been agreed.

Such was Imray’s excellent form in 16 Championship appearances last term, that Wrexham have sanctioned a deal claimed to be worth around £5m for the London-born flyer.

The right-back has been involved in Palace’s pre-season, where he looked to catch the eye under new Eagles boss Pierre Sage.

Wrexham, under Phil Parkinson, finished one place and two points outside the play-offs in their first season back in the Championship following three successive promotions.

When Imray was referenced to head coach Morrison after Albion’s 4-1 friendly win at Shrewsbury on Saturday, the boss said he “would not get drawn into talking about a player at a different club.”

The development on Monday comes after Albion’s pursuit of French right-back Nolan Galvez intensified over the weekend.

Galvez, 23, shone at Rodez, in the second tier in France, last season.

Albion are interested in his signature and working on a deal, but they are not alone, with Southampton also reportedly in the hunt. Other English clubs were credited with interest throughout the summer.

Returning left-back Conor Townsend, 33, became Albion’s fifth new signing of the summer on Friday night when he sealed a Hawthorns return after two years away.
