Jake Livermore: West Brom squad all in it together

Jake Livermore believes the togetherness that exists in Albion’s squad will ensure there are no problems when Slaven Bilic rotates his side during the run-in.

The Baggies travel to take on Brentford on Friday in what is their second match of a spell that sees them play nine games in just 33 days.

With such a demanding schedule, Bilic has confirmed he expects to rotate his squad over the coming weeks.

That will mean big players miss out – something we saw on Saturday when the likes of Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry, Conor Townsend and Kamil Grosicki all failed to make the squad for the Blues game.

But while players are always disappointed not to play, Livermore says there won’t be anyone at Albion causing problems if they are left out.

“One of the strengths of our squad is the togetherness of it – but the depth is quite remarkable really,” he said.

“It’ll be an interesting period. But I think we’re under no illusions that the games are going to come thick and fast.

“I think there’ll be times when players are not involved at all, and then suddenly they’ll be starting because of rotation and how it works and where we are with strength and positional wise.

“Ultimately we all want the same goal.

“Disappointment of not playing, or not starting, is only natural because we want to play football and do our best for each other, for ourselves and for the club.

“It’ll be difficult, I’m sure, but ultimately we all want the same thing.

“We’ve got trust and faith in the manager and his team and among ourselves as well. If for whatever reason I couldn’t play, I’ve got the utmost faith in whoever would be in my position.”

A lot has been made of Albion’s options in attacking areas over the last few months – with Bilic particularly blessed with players who can play out wide.

For Livermore, though, the same strength exists throughout the squad.

“It’s a lovely problem for the manager to have,” the 30-year-old said when asked about Bilic’s attacking options.

“I think we can do that all over the field.

“They’re my team, they’re my teammates. I know exactly what they can do.

“The younger boys – I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do if they get a chance.

“Some of the other boys who have had a nice block of fitness now, which you sometimes can’t get in a season because of the way games or training falls.

“Up front and in the wide areas is an exciting interchange and something where we’d all be more than happy to play with one another.”

Meanwhile, Albion have a vacancy on their website for a head of education to work with the club’s academy.

The post holder must have a teaching qualification or qualified teacher status.

Academy manager Richard Stevens said: “The candidate will form a part of a group of staff who must aim to inspire and motivate young players to want to achieve elite levels in all areas of life.

“The ability to balance outstanding education and elite football is important in the development of our young players.”
